teamix #3 - February 2019: "Ohh chacha, suno naa?"

I’m a Senior Software Development Engineer at Trellix, where I work on the Platform Engineering Team to build secure, scalable solutions for enterprise and federal clients. My focus spans Marketplace, developer, and API initiatives, as well as cloud security management (ePO), ensuring reliability and strong application security across our cloud services.
Previously, I helped Turtlemint scale its insurance platform from 20,000 to over 1 million agents, and gained diverse experience through seven internships, including at HackerRank. Outside of work, I love exploring new music, attending gigs, and playing football. I’m passionate about using technology to solve real-world problems and making a meaningful impact through my work.
Yooo!!
Guess who's back? Back again? teamix's back? Tell your friends :P
Well, pretty hectic week for us. I (Rohit) had deadlines and Suchet had exams and we've just generally been bustin' it. Regardless, we love taking time out to figure out tracks that we loved over the past few weeks and to be able to share them with you. Plus we are slowly getting into a rhythm with these newsletters and as difficult as our weeks can be, we thoroughly enjoy the time we spend figuring out what to share and sharing those tracks with you even though we both are like 6878 km apart.
Anyways, onwards to the fun part?
(Quick note: There is a crowdfunded music festival happening in Bombay on the 9th and 10th of March which I (Rohit) will be attending and if anyone thinks its cool and wants to come or just know more, I suggest you check out this page. They just released their lineup and it looks legit AMAZING. Do say hi if you happen to come)

Spirit Bird - Xavier Rudd
Album: Spirit Bird (2012)

Like I (Rohit) said earlier this last week has been fairly hectic, and this song hit us with this really pleasing optimistic vibe. It kinda reminds you of that feeling of looking out to the horizon. Xavier Rudd has that quintessential acoustic-guitar-and-solo-male voice, sweet and soulful, and coupled with some beautiful guitar melodies, this is a really great track. Hits all those good spots for a moment of appreciation for life.
Lady (Hear Me Tonight) - Modjo
Album: Modjo (2001)
This track is a bit of a throwback wayy back. The classic disco groove with simple lyrics made it a dance floor hit in the 2000s. This disco-gem gives me a lot of Staying Alive (Bee Gee) vibe with house party beats layered on top. A very random song we stumbled across which quickly hooked us and had us pumping this week when we needed it.
Mi Rumba - Sofi Tukker, ZHU
Album: Mi Rumba (2019)

Both of us are huge ZHU fans, and this track is him doing what he does best. Catchy basslines with a nice slap of that ZHU wonk, excellently done as usual. But then there is also Sofi Tukker now, and she brings a whole new twist to things. This track is hawt - husky vocals, a thumping beat, and really sexy lyrics - and we've already added it to our playlists ;) ;). Definitely a good way to end exams I'd say.
Paper Puli - Thermal And A Quarter
Album: Plan B (2004)
Long long ago in a land called Christ College, there were three Malayalis and a quarter-Malayali; they formed a band and it was called Thermal and a Quarter. The rest is history. Literally, one of the tightest and most entertaining bands we have had the pleasure of seeing live in Bangalore. TAAQ describe their music as "Bangalore Rock" but it feels more like a mix of multiple genres together and boy do they know how to entertain in every single one of them. Be it from "won-and-alf" autos lyrics or just the feels of walking around Bangalore these guys just will make you remember it and groove along.
Fighting The Sumo - Your Chin
Album: Peeping Till It's Noise (2016)

Your Chin or Raxit Tewari is better known as the frontman of visionary rock band Sky Rabbit but this electronica based persona of his is definitely something which plays out very well and is very interesting. Catchy and easy to enjoy with its bouncy electro-pop sounds, which are equally complimented by his vocal and lyrical backing. - Rohit Jacob Mathew
It's fuckin lit, I remember playing the 5 songs from their 'Peeping till it's noise' and 'Sleeping' albums on repeat for the entire bus journey from Bangalore to Chennai to SRM, some 8 hours total. I don't think Your Chin will ever be something I can't listen to anymore. - Suchet Iyer
Also as an added bonus, I (Rohit) wanted to feature a beautiful classical music performance by Ustad Zakir Hussain and Rakesh Chaurasia (Nephew of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia). As of now, Zakir Hussain is the only classical legend I have not had the opportunity to see live and sadly as of now, this video is what I have got to make do with. Hope you guys enjoy.
Anyways, we really hope you enjoyed this! Thanks a lot for reading it till the end, it means a lot to us! Do write back if you have suggestions/feedback/thoughts/music to share, or if you just want to say hi, here are our Instagram handles: @rohit_mathew & @iyer.suchet. Whenever someone asks us if we recommend a comfortable chair, a nice buddy and a steaming cup of chai to pair with teamix, we like to quote this, with eyes full of tears - Always.
P.S. - We get asked that a lot.
P.P.S - I lied.
See you in two weeks!
Rohit & Suchet
